Pre-Production

  UPDATE

   Pre-Production

"Technology" is now in the early stages of production at Media-Arts! This week, the producers are preparing the proposals for major underwriters and discussing with researchers the subjects that will be part of the nine-program series.

This is "technically" known as "pre" pre-production and when underwriting for the series is established actual pre-production development begins.

            ABOUT PRE-PRODUCTION

An oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Following early development for the series, extensive research into program elements, such as the new technologies used in oil exploration and drilling, are carried out by a "Research and Development Team."

1Preliminary to the actual pre-production phase of work is the creation of the project and its dynamic. The Executive Producer researches, builds and then markets the project.

1.1a DEVELOPMENT  - Materials include the TREATMENT, BUDGET, PLANNING BOOK and the PROPOSAL.  These are initial materials that will be used to propose and obtain funding for the project. The Proposal will be used as the written piece about the project, the others are for the Executive Producer and others as foundation materials. The budget is based on verbal agreements or standard rates made known to the E.P.

1.1b  CONCEPT  -Part of the PROPOSAL and TREATMENT is the Concept, a short direct explicit description of the project. It is found as the “Executive Summary” within the PROPOSAL.

1.1c  MARKETING –This is the “selling” part of the project and could require as much time as the Production and Post phases! In this period, the executive Producer presents, discusses, negotiates and contracts the “major underwriters” for the project (see financials, next). Marketing also involves re-addressing the project and refining it to meet underwriter parameters.

1.1d  FINANCIALS –Negotiation, agreement, contract, through funding and accounting, this part of the pre-production/marketing  phase arranges for, receives and receipts funding.

1.1e  TIMEFRAME: The process has begun. Approximately three  months of development has been completed on premise, proposal, budget and planning areas. We are now establishing underwriters for phases 1 and 2.
